The insurer paid. The question is whether they paid what they owed.
When the insurer collects directly, the broker never touches the money — they only see it on the statement. If the amount comes in short, nobody notices, because there's nothing to compare against without checking by hand. Amparo reads the statement, matches each line to the right receipt and shows the difference — with the reason it paired those two lines.
If this sounds familiar
- Statement checking is done by hand, line by line, at month end.
- Every insurer sends a different format, and some are scanned PDFs.
- A difference of tens of euros per receipt goes undetected — but it adds up over a year.
- By the time it's spotted, there's neither time nor evidence to claim it back.
What Amparo does in this case
Spain has EIAC, a standardised format more than 70 insurers issue. Portugal has no equivalent. Instead of building an integration per insurer, the document gets read — PDF, CSV, or a photo of a printed listing.
A line with an identical policy number but a different amount isn't a match failure — it's the finding. It gets its own state, with the size of the difference and its direction: overpaid or underpaid.
The premium stays decomposed: net, charges, stamp duty, parafiscal levies. Calculating commission on the gross total is the most common arithmetic error in a broker back office, and it silently inflates every figure in the system.
"Policy number identical", "Digits match with different formatting", "Premium differs: 8,677.50 € vs 8,740.00 €". A confidence score without a justification is a black box, and a black box that moves money doesn't get used.
How it runs
- 01Upload the statement
Exactly as the insurer sent it. No prior conversion.
- 02The lines get read
Each keeps what was printed and how confident the reading was.
- 03Match to receipts
By policy number, policyholder and period — normalised only at comparison time, never over the original value.
- 04Work the exceptions
Reconciled lines are accepted in bulk. What's left is the list worth chasing.
What Amparo doesn't do for you
- A statement too long for one read is refused with a clear message rather than half-read. Automatic splitting is on the roadmap.
- Excel files aren't supported — export as PDF or CSV.
- Certified SAF-T PT and ASF report submission aren't built.
- Extraction hasn't yet been tested against real Portuguese insurer statements.
We say this on the product page because finding it out in the third meeting is worse for both of us.
Questions
We don't know, and be sceptical of anyone who quotes you a percentage before seeing your statements. The offer is concrete: bring a month of statements, we run the reconciliation alongside your system, and you look at whatever differences appear. If there's nothing worth the cost, you knew within a week.
Bring a month of statements. We'll compare against your system.
If we don't find differences that justify the cost, you'll know that in a week — without spending a project to find out.
